Automotive lighting connectors are key components ensuring the normal operation of a vehicle's lighting system. Their core function is to establish a stable electrical connection between the lights and the vehicle's electrical system, ensuring reliable power and signal transmission.
Main Functions and Roles
Power Transmission: The lighting connector is responsible for delivering vehicle power (typically 12V DC) to lighting equipment such as headlights, taillights, turn signals, and brake lights. For high-power LEDs or matrix headlights, the connector must have a strong current-carrying capacity (e.g., ≥10A) to support continuous and stable power supply.
Signal Transmission: In addition to power supply, the connector also undertakes the task of transmitting control signals. Intelligent functions such as high/low beam switching, adaptive lighting adjustment, and dynamic turn signal sequences all rely on the connector to accurately deliver commands from the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) to the lighting assembly.
Environmental Protection: Lights installed on the exterior of the vehicle body are constantly exposed to rain, dust, vibration, and extreme temperatures. Therefore, automotive lighting connectors generally feature waterproof and dustproof designs, with many models achieving IP67 or even IP6K9K protection ratings, maintaining their sealing performance under high-pressure washing and harsh weather conditions.
Vibration Resistance and Durability: The connectors employ anti-loosening structures (such as locking clips and dual-contact spring designs) to effectively resist continuous vibrations during driving, preventing poor contact or open circuits and ensuring driving safety.
Support for Intelligent Upgrades: As automotive lighting evolves towards pixelation and high integration, modern connectors also need to support high-frequency signal transmission (such as automotive Ethernet) to meet the EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) and low-latency requirements of advanced functions such as adaptive high beams and projection interaction.
Easy Maintenance and Replacement: Modular design allows for quick plugging and unplugging of the connectors, simplifying the assembly and maintenance process of the automotive lighting assembly and reducing after-sales maintenance costs.
